2020 Threshers Coaching Staff Announced

The Clearwater Threshers have announced the 2020 coaching staff.

  • Manager – Pat Borders
  • Hitting Coach – Chris Heintz *
  • Pitching Coach – Hector Mercado
  • Strength & Conditioning Coach – Jose Salas *
  • Position Coach – Mycal Jones

Managing the Threshers this year is 1992 World Series MVP Pat Borders. The 56 year old coach is a 2x world series champion and was a member of the gold medal winning Team USA at the 2000 Sydney games. Borders has played for career batting average of .253 , 69 home runs, and 346 runs batted in. Borders started managing professional baseball in 2015 for the Phillies organization.

Returning as hitting coach for Clearwater is hitting coach Chris Heintz who was with the Minnesota Twins from 2005-2007 as a catcher. Heintz started his coaching career in 2009 with the Beloit Snappers. Chris has also coached at the D1 collegiate level.

Hector Mercado looks to dial in the pitching staff as he joins the Threshers as pitching coach for the 2020 season. Mercado was born in Puerto Rico and spent four years in the MLB pitching.

Jose Salas comes back to Clearwater for another year as the strength and conditioning coach for the Threshers.

Lastly, joining the Clearwater coaching staff for 2020 is former 4th round pick in the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft is Mycal Jones. He will be the positions coach this year. Jones is a former utility guy who played centerfield and shortstop in the Minor Leagues.

We hope to see manager Pat Borders and his coaching staff coach the Threshers to a FSL championship this year!
